An injured suspect in the custody of Tipton Police is accused of attacking an officer while being treated at University of Iowa Heath Care.

UI Police were called to the UIHC Emergency Department on Grand Avenue just after 7:45 on the night of February 5th after Tipton Police reported an issue with 33-year-old Spencer Mullett of Lemon Street. Mullett had been arrested in Tipton for Public Intoxication, and at some point had suffered a head wound. That required transport to the UIHC, where Mullett allegedly spit in a Tipton Police officer’s face while at the triage station. Mullett reportedly had to be physically taken to the ground in order to comply with commands.

The Public Intoxication charge was dropped in Cedar County on Friday, and Mullett was then transported to the Johnson County Jail and charged with Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations and Interference With Official Acts. If convicted on both counts, he faces a maximum of 25 months in jail.
