An area transient was arrested Sunday afternoon after allegedly threatening bystanders with a machete.
The incident occurred on Highway 6 East just before 1:45pm. 39-year-old Sean Dewalt was called in after reportedly waving the weapon around and threatening bystanders. Responding officers located Dewalt, who allegedly tried to conceal the machete from them by holding it with a reverse grip next to his forearm.
When told to drop the machete, Dewalt reportedly did not comply and began pointing the weapon at an officer. He yelled that the officer was harassing him and continued to ignore commands to drop the machete.
The arrest report states officers had to use “conducted energy devices” and physical force to disarm Dewalt and take him into custody.
He was charged with Interference with Official Acts with the use of a dangerous weapon, a Class D Felony punishable by a maximum five-year prison term if convicted.
