Jorge González Ochoa, the immigrant who was detained by plainclothes ICE agents at the Bread Garden Market back in September has entered a plea agreement.
The Daily Iowan reports Gonzalez Ochoa agreed to plead guilty to a count of fraud and misuse of documents. Charges of the use of an immigration identification document not lawfully issued and the false representation of a Social Security number will be dropped.
Gonzalez Ochoa reportedly admitted to entering the US illegally from Columbia. In May 2025, he was in possession of a permanent residency card and a Social Security card in another person’s name, and allegedly used those documents to get a job. Court documents indicate that Gonzalez Ochoa was aware the documents were unlawfully obtained.
Gonzalez Ochoa could be sentenced to a maximum 10 years in prison and supervised release of up to three years after serving his time. The agreement also means that his ability to challenge removal from the country in the future would be restricted, and he could be subject to immediate removal after serving his sentence.
A federal judge ruled Gonzalez-Ochoa was illegally detained and ordered his release last month with supervision while his case advanced toward his March 2 trial.
