An Iowa City woman who left an accident on foot was charged with OWI.

According to court documents, 29-year-old Doreen Bwayo of Bittersweet Court was involved in an accident on Heinz Road at 12:45am Wednesday.  When officers arrived on scene, they were told Bwayo left southbound on foot.

She was located and reportedly observed with bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, and lethargic walking.  Bwayo denied driving the vehicle, but multiple people allegedly placed her in the driver’s seat at the time of the accident.  She refused field and chemical testing.

A check of Bwayo’s driving record showed her status as revoked for OWI test refusal until July.

She was charged with OWI, Driving while Revoked, and Driving while Suspended. Bwayo could be sentenced to up to two years in jail if convicted on the counts.

Bwayo has pleaded guilty to the first OWI charge and will be sentenced on February 26th.
