An Iowa City man was arrested Wednesday night after officers were called regarding a trespass issue.

Police responded to the 1900 block of Broadway Street and were advised that the incident was believed to have escalated to a physical altercation. An officer located 37-year-old Jamal Holmes of Keokuk Street at the entrance to the apartment’s parking lot.   Holmes was covered in grease and blood, as well as being out of breath.

Police believed Holmes was involved in the incident and advised him to stop, but he allegedly attempted to walk away. He was then told he was being detained, but Holmes reportedly continued to walk away and around officers.

He was placed into custody, and allegedly found to be intoxicated. Holmes allegedly had slurred speech and the odor of ingested alcohol; he also reportedly admitted he was drunk.

Holmes was placed into the back of a squad car and allegedly proceeded to kick at the steel cage bars of the passenger window and caused the bottom steel bar to bend.

Holmes was charged with interference with official acts, public intoxication, and 4th degree Criminal Mischief. If convicted on all counts, he could be sentenced to up to 14 months in jail.
