A large fire producing clouds of black smoke and poor visibility burned about 500 acres of Johnson County farmland Wednesday afternoon.
The fire occurred south of US218 on Ivy Road SW, and caused law enforcement to block Ivy Road SW at about 4pm. Local fire departments from Amana, Oxford, Tiffin and North English were among those who battled the blaze.
About 500 Mid-American Energy customers lost power as a result of the fire.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined.
