Johnson County Emergency Management has posted dozens of photos from the vegetation fire that ravaged areas west of Iowa City on Wednesday.
The post on the Johnson County Homeland Security & Emergency Management Agency Facebook page indicates the fire “spread quickly from field to field, yard to yard, and from building and vehicle to building and vehicle.”
The affected area was along IWV Road west of Highway 218. Multiple agencies responded, and Johnson County EMA says the numerous agencies that responded saved multiple homes, livestock, and countless pieces of personal property. The blaze was contained and extinguished within the span of five-and-a-half hours.
The fire occurred during a Red Flag Warning, when conditions warranted no outdoor burning.
