Buies Creek, N.C. – The University of Iowa softball team fell to Miami (Ohio), 4-1, in the final game of the Campbell Invitational at Amanda Littlejohn Stadium. The Hawkeyes finished the weekend 3-2 and move to 10-4 on the season.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Miami (Ohio) struck early, scoring a run in the second inning and loading the bases before freshman Braylen Conlon entered in relief and recorded the final two outs to prevent further damage.
Iowa was held scoreless through the first four innings despite putting multiple balls in play but was unable to break through against the RedHawks’ defense.
The Hawkeyes broke through in the top of the sixth when senior Tory Bennett drew a leadoff walk and advanced into scoring position. Freshman McKenzie Leitgen followed with an RBI single to tie the game at 1-1.
Miami (Ohio) answered in the bottom half of the inning, plating three runs to reclaim the lead at 4-1. Iowa was unable to mount a comeback over the final frame as the RedHawks secured the victory.
