An Iowa City man on probation for an assault conviction was arrested after allegedly assaulting his mother.

The incident occurred February 2nd as 40-year-old Patrick Smith of Wylde Green Road was going to the store with his mother. He reportedly requested money from his mother, who refused.  That led to Smith becoming irate and starting an argument.

He reportedly refused to go home with his mother and yelled at his mother to not take him there. When she continued to drive toward the residence, Smith allegedly punched his mother in the shoulder multiple times. The woman reportedly suffered pain and later bruising.

When interviewed, Smith allegedly admitted to getting mad and committing the assault.

A warrant was issued on February 9th; Smith was served on the 13th and charged with Assault causing Bodily Injury. He faces up to a year in jail if convicted.
