A convicted Iowa City sex offender has reached a plea deal after allegedly soliciting a minor.

Online records show 23-year-old Travis Schuchert of Schuchert Drive SE reached the agreement last week. In February of last year Schuchert allegedly began communicating with a female he believed to be under the age of 16. Police say he told her he wanted to commit sex acts with her, and made arrangements for her to skip school and join him at a predetermined location on South Riverside Drive.  He also reportedly sent the girl two photos of his genitalia.

Schuchert is on the Iowa Sex Offender Registry after being convicted of 3rd Degree Sexual Abuse in Keokuk County in 2024. The victim was a girl between the ages of 14 and 17. A police search of Schuchert’s phone after his latest arrest allegedly turned up two Snapchat accounts that he had not reported to law enforcement, as required.

Schuchert is charged with Enticing a Minor for Sexual Purposes, Sexual Exploitation of a Minor, Telephone Dissemination of Obscene Material to a Minor, and two violations of the Iowa Sex Offender Registry. If convicted on all counts, he would have faced a maximum of 52 years in prison.
Sentencing is set for April 20th.

Schuchert also faces a probation revocation after he pleaded guilty to charges that he pulled a shotgun on another person during a property exchange gone awry on East Burlington Street in 2023.
