UIHC committal accused of assaulting staff while trying to escape

An involuntary committal at University of Iowa Health Care faces a felony charge after allegedly assaulting a security guard while trying to escape.

The incident in question reportedly occurred just before 12:30 on the morning of February 8th in the UIHC Emergency Department on Hawkins Drive. UI Police say 29-year-old Jahmah Taylor of the Town & Campus Apartments on Arthur Street in Iowa City had an involuntary committal in place. Taylor allegedly grabbed a security guard who was trying to keep him from leaving. The guard took Taylor to the ground,and during the ensuing scuffle Taylor allegedly clawed at the guard, breaking the skin on his hand.

Taylor is now charged with Assault on Persons in Certain Occupations Causing Bodily Injury. If convicted, he faces a maximum of five years in prison.
