Iowa City Police have arrested a Coralville man they say was stalking his ex-girlfriend.

25-year-old Joshua Jasek of Highland Park Avenue was booked into the Johnson County Jail just before 2:30 Tuesday afternoon. According to arrest records, a woman reported that she had seen Jasek watching her house last fall despite her breaking up with him in July of that year. Jasek allegedly confronted her at an Iowa City bar in November when he saw her with another man.
The woman went on to report that from late December through this month she and her current boyfriend had something poured into their gas tanks that ruined the vehicles. Once the vehicles were replaced, the situation happened again. In all four cases the vehicles were parked in the lot of the alleged victim’s apartment building. The gasoline in all four vehicles tested positive for the presence of sulfuric acid.

A camera was set up, and Saturday morning just before 5 a suspect was captured pouring something into the woman’s gas tank. The suspect had a similar build to Jasek and he was reportedly wearing clothes similar to those Jasek owns.

The woman also reported that earlier this month someone broke into her residence and stole several items that might have sentimental value to Jasek. The items were located inside his residence during the execution of a search warrant on Tuesday.

Jasek is charged with Stalking, 1st Degree Criminal Mischief, and 3rd Degree Burglary. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of 17 years in prison.
