A Jackson County man has been taken into custody as part of an investigation into an assault in downtown Iowa City last month.

Iowa City Police say just after 1:15 on the morning of February 13th, 18-year-old Elijah Lemke of Maquoketa chased another person through the Ped Mall before shoving them to the concrete near the intersection of Dubuque and Washington Streets. Lemke then allegedly punched the other person in the face, rendering them unconscious and causing a laceration to their eyebrow that required stitches, as well as a bloody nose, and various other scrapes.
The incident was captured on city cameras.

Lemke is now charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury, a Serious Misdemeanor punishable by a maximum of one year in jail.
