A Wellman fire truck was involved in a minor accident while responding to a blaze Friday afternoon.
According to Washington County dispatch records, the Wellman Volunteer Fire Department was responding to a grass fire near a structure on Highway 22 between Wellman and Kinross just after 12:15 when one of its firetrucks tried to pass a truck hauling a hay wagon on Highway 22 near Elm Avenue. The truck tried turning left as the firetruck was passing, and the firetruck sideswiped the truck and wagon. The truck driver didn’t notice the collision, and the firetruck continued to the fire with minor damage.
No citations were issued, and insurance information was exchanged once a Washington County deputy made contact with the two drivers.
