A third person has been charged in connection with an early Sunday morning fight at an Iowa City nightclub.
Iowa City Police were called to La Rumba on Lower Muscatine Road just after 1:45 a.m. after staff advised a customer had started a fight over a dispute involving his girlfriend. Police later learned the man in question, 21-year-old Matthew Gutierrez of Clinton, was with a woman who currently has an order of protection against him. An officer suffered a cut to his hand while Gutierrez allegedly physically resisted being taken into custody. Gutierrez is charged with Disorderly Conduct, Public Intoxication, Violating a No Contact Order, and Interference With Official Acts Causing Bodily Injury. If convicted on all counts, he faces a maximum of 15 months in jail.
Also arrested was 25-year-old Alex Garcia-Zamora of Hollywood Boulevard. who allegedly showed signs of intoxication and was found with a dollar bill in his pocket that contained a white, powdery substance that appeared to be cocaine. Garcia-Zamora is charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance and Public Intoxication. He faces up to 13 months behind bars, if convicted.
Now the ICPD says a third person, 31-year-old John Zamora of the Quarters on Highway 6 East, faces charges of Disorderly Conduct, Public Intoxication, and Interference With Official Acts Causing Bodily Injury. Zamora allegedly yelled at officers and told them they had to respect him. He allegedly resisted being handcuffed, leading to one officer suffering a scraped hand and knee.
If convicted, Zamora faces up to 14 months in jail.
