A car crash in southern Iowa has injured a pair of Johnson County women.

The Iowa State Patrol says 20-year-old Ryleigh Rawls of Iowa City was driving a 2014 Chevy Cruz southbound on Interstate 35 in Clarke County just before 1:15 Wednesday afternoon when she attempted to merge into the next lane to take the Osceola exit. Rawls reportedly sideswiped a semi being driven by 40-year-old James Lawrence of Benson, Arizona. The ensuing accident pinned the Chevy between the semi and the guardrail.

Rawls and 71-year-old Patricia Swartzendruber, also of Iowa City, were transported to nearby hospitals. Their conditions have not been released.
