A suspect is accused of leading Johnson County deputies on a high-speed overnight chase through southeast Iowa City.
Arrest records indicate a deputy attempted to pull over a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee for failing to stop at the stop sign at Highway 6 and Scott Boulevard just after 2:30 Tuesday morning. The driver reportedly failed to pull over despite the officer activating his lights and siren, speeding over 25 miles per hour over the speed limit, and occasionally passing unsafely in the opposite lanes of traffic.
Arrest records indicate once the vehicle stopped near the intersection of Highway 6 and Lakeside Drive, the driver fled on foot into a nearby mobile home. Officers entered the home, tasered the driver, and took him into custody.
41-year-old Jose Aguilar Bar of the Sunrise Village manufactured housing community is charged with Felony Eluding, Operating While Intoxicated, Interference With Official Acts, and numerous traffic violations. His breath alcohol level was measured at .168%, and he reportedly had no driver’s license nor any proof of insurance.
If convicted on all counts against him, Aguilar Bar faces a maximum of over six years in prison.
