A transient faces an assault charge after an incident last month at the Iowa City Winter Extreme Temperature, or WET, shelter.
According to arrest records, 45-year-old Charles Smith was staying at the Southgate Avenue facility on the night of February 19th when he head-butted another resident, causing pain to the other person’s nose. The incident was captured on security video.
Smith is charged with Assault Causing Bodily Injury. If convicted, he faces up to one year in jail.
