A local transient has been arrested as part of an Iowa City burglary investigation.

25-year-old Benjamin Rodgers was booked into the Johnson County Jail just after 2:00 on the morning of February 25th. Rodgers was reported as a suspicious person outside the former Kum & Go on Mormon Trek Boulevard at 4:30 on the morning of February 7th. Police say he was found in possession of several items that were later reported as stolen from a nearby garage and vehicle on Walden Road. Since the items hadn’t yet been reported stolen, Rodgers was allowed to leave without incident.

Once the burglary was reported, a warrant was issued for Rodgers’s arrest. He was taken into custody at the Iowa Lodge on the Coralville Strip just after 1:00 on the morning of February 25th. A glass pipe with burnt residue was reportedly found on his person.

Rodgers is charged with 3rd Degree Burglary, 3rd Degree Burglary of a Motor Vehicle, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and two counts of 3rd Degree Theft. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of over 11 years in prison.
