A majority of the Johnson County Board of Supervisors is opposing funding a school resource officer for the Clear Creek Amana School District.
The officer would be a full-time deputy placed in the Clear Creek Amana middle and high schools under a one-year pilot program. The proposal has been approved by the school board and the City of Tiffin, but it also needs funding approved by the Board of Supervisors. That’s because the city of Tiffin contracts with the county to provide law enforcement duties within the community.
Supervisors Jon Green, V Fixmer-Oraiz, and Mandi Remington opposed the proposal at this week’s work session. Lisa Green-Douglass had reservations, but said she would likely be a “yes” vote. Rod Sullivan did not indicate how he would vote.
Green said while he opposes the county funding the officer, he’s not against the concept itself.
Currently, no Johnson County school districts have school resource officers.
