Layoffs from the Whirlpool Corporation have led to one of its customers closing down its location in Kalona.
Engineered Plastic Components has announced it will be closing its Kalona plant in the near future, although a specific date was not given. Iowa law says companies with 100 or more employees must give a 60-day notification to the state of any mass layoffs or closures, and the closing is not yet listed in state records.
The biggest customer for EPC is Whirlpool, which just laid off 341 workers from its Amana plant. The company says that drop in business led to the impending closure.
