Two Iowa City men accused of using stolen credit cards in separate downtown incidents

Two Iowa City men are accused of using stolen credit cards in separate downtown incidents.

The first victim reports losing his wallet at El Ray’s Live & Dive on Iowa Avenue on the night of January 15th. A credit card inside was used at Hawkeye Smoke & Liquor on East College Street a short time later. The suspect, 32-year-old Michael Amerson of Broadway Street, was reportedly captured by security video using the card . He was captured after he was arrested for a warrant stemming from allegedly using another stolen credit card at Up in Smoke on Broadway Street on February 2nd.

The second case involves a victim losing his wallet on the Ped Mall around 2:00 on the morning of February 25th. 35-year-old Kyle Von Rossum…who lists his address as Shelter House…is accused of trying to use the card at the East Burlington Street Kum & Go a short time later. Von Rossum was arrested two days later.

Both Amerson and Von Rossum are charged with Unauthorized Use of a Credit Card. If convicted, they each face a maximum of two years in jail.
