The Eastern Iowa Airport is holding a donation drive to help sustain Transportation Security Administration workers who are working without pay due to a partial government shutdown.
The Gazette reports the airport announced the drive this week on social media. They’re accepting non-perishable food items, household essentials, or gift cards. Airport officials are asking that the individual gift cards not exceed $20 and they are not accepting Visa gift cards.
Donations can be dropped off at the airport information desk between 8am and 4:30pm Monday through Friday.
The federal shutdown only affects the Department of Homeland Security, which includes the TSA. Democrats say they won’t agree to Homeland Security funding until immigration officials agree to new operational restrictions.
