The Johnson County Board of Supervisors has voted 4-1 against funding a school resource officer for the Clear Creek Amana School District.

The officer would have been a full-time deputy placed in the Clear Creek Amana middle and high schools under a one-year pilot program. The proposal had already been approved by the school board and the City of Tiffin, but it also needed funding approved by the Board of Supervisors. That’s because the city of Tiffin contracts with the county to provide law enforcement duties within the community.

Supervisor V Fixmer-Oraiz argued that data shows SRO’s have a negative impact on minority students.

Currently, no Johnson County school districts have school resource officers.

The Supervisors also passed a resolution Thursday calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in the war with Iran.
