An Iowa City man was arrested on a warrant stemming from a scooter theft earlier this month.

Police say 56-year-old Harold Blakey, a Shelter House resident , was seen on camera leaving the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics just before 5:30pm March 12th and taking a scooter that didn’t belong to him.

Court documents say the footage shows Blakey bypassing the bike lock and then riding away on the scooter, reportedly valued at $429.

Blakey was in the UIHC for unspecified treatment when the warrant was issued the next day; upon release Tuesday he was arrested and charged with 4th degree theft, a serious misdemeanor. He could be sentenced to up to a year in jail if convicted.

Blakey reached a plea deal on third degree burglary and theft charges last month, receiving a five-year suspended sentence.
