The Iowa Avenue railroad bridge has claimed another victim.

Iowa City and University of Iowa Police responded to the bridge…located next to the English-Philosophy Building…just before 8:00 Thursday morning after a truck failed to make it under the 10.5-foot clearance.

Photos on social media show a Gilcrest/Jewett Lumber box truck struck the bridge while heading eastbound, peeling back the front portion of the roof.

The bridge was built in 1904 as part of the CRANDIC rail line connecting Iowa City and Cedar Rapids. The span currently averages about two accidents per year.
