Reportedly giving false information in order to acquire a weapon has led to a felony charge against an Iowa City man.
Iowa City Police say on the afternoon of August 14th, 2024, 28-year-old MacArthur Young filled out federal paperwork required to purchase a Ruger 989 pistol at Fin & Feather on Highway 1 West. Young allegedly marked that he was not a drug user.
On January 29th of this year, a search warrant executed on Young’s Finkbine Lane apartment allegedly turned up marijuana and three firearms. Iowa City Police were investigating Young after he reportedly pulled up next to another vehicle at the stoplight at Melrose Avenue and Mormon Trek Boulevard, rolled down his window, and displayed a registered firearm toward the other driver. The woman quickly sped away and called 9-1-1.
In addition to charges of Assault While Displaying a Dangerous Weapon, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Keeping Premises for the Use of Controlled Substances, Young now faces an added count of Giving False Information in Acquiring a Weapon. If convicted on all current charges, he faces up to ten years in prison.
A case management conference is set for May 18th.
