An area transient faces jail time after a random assault at an Iowa City bus stop and near Shelter House.
Police say 38-year-old Todd Brodie was at the stop near Boyrum Street at Olympic Court Saturday morning at around 8:30. Officers responded to the scene on report of a fight. According to the victim, he and others were waiting at the bus stop when Brodie suddenly punched him in the face.
When the victim asked Brodie what his problem was, he got punched in the face again.
Police say Brodie and the victim don’t know each other.
Then on Sunday morning, Brodie allegedly followed a victim walking away from Shelter House. When the victim turned around, Brodie reportedly hit him with pepper spray, leaving the victim with a burning sensation on his skin and in his eyes. Police say Brodie was still in possession of the pepper spray canister when they arrived on scene.
Brodie was charged with two counts of Assault causing Bodily Injury and could face up to two years in jail if convicted. A no-contact order was issued by Judge Jason Burns for Saturday’s incident.
