A school that didn’t field a football team and another that canceled its season after two games over concerns for player safety are combining their programs this fall.

KCRG TV reports Lone Tree and Highland School boards this month separately approved an agreement to combine both the varsity and middle school football programs to play as one team in the 2026 season.

The combined team will play under the Highland-Lone Tree with an ‘HLT’ emblem on the helmet. The precise colors and design would be agreed upon later. The teams will play Highland’s schedule and practice at Highland’s facilities.

Lone Tree didn’t have a team last season, and Highland’s head coach quit early in the season over concerns for player safety, causing the rest of the season to be cancelled.
