More than 60 clergy, immigrants, and community members gathered outside the front doors of the Cedar Rapids Federal Building to deliver 2,600 petition signatures to Rep. Ashley Hinson, demanding she meet with clergy and immigrants and stop funding ICE abuses.

According to a release from Escucha Mi Vos, the action comes after Rep. Hinson cancelled a virtual town hall last month she had previously promised to her district, further intensifying calls from constituents for direct accountability and dialogue.

Participants held a press conference at the building entrance. The Rev. Peggy Garrigues of Solon United Methodist Church, spoke at the event.

The reading of the petition by the Reverend was interrupted by Homeland Security, who told the group they were trespassing and had to disburse, but Garrigues continued on.

The group completed their program and successfully delivered the petitions. Organizers said the action is part of an ongoing campaign to build public pressure until Rep. Hinson agrees to meet with constituents.
