Two Iowa City residents were arrested Monday evening after a traffic stop allegedly turned up multiple illegal drugs.

At approximately 6:12pm, an officers observed a Ford F150 pickup eastbound on Bowery Street near its intersection with Summit Street. The driver was not wearing a seat belt, prompting a traffic stop.

There was a positive K9 alert on the vehicle, and the driver and passenger were searched. 46-year-old Patrick Gerbyshak of Sycamore reportedly had a rock-like substance in his pocket. He claimed it was a receipt, but then allegedly pulled out three separate baggies containing meth. Gerbyshak also reportedly had $1000 in cash on his person.

The other occupant of the vehicle, 47-year-old Natalie Roberts of Middlebury road, allegedly was found with bags of methamphetamine and prescription drugs that reportedly didn’t belong to her.

A criminal check on both Roberts and Gerbyshak found multiple previous convictions.

Gerbyshak was charged with a 3rd or subsequent controlled substance violation and could face up to five years in prison if convicted.

Roberts was charged with three counts of 3rd or subsequent possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a prescription drug. She could be sentenced to up to 17 years in prison if convicted on all charges.
