EUGENE, Oregon — The University of Iowa softball team lost to No. 18 Oregon, 10-1 in six innings, on Friday evening, at Jane Sanders Stadium.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Ducks (27-9, 8-2) struck first with three runs by way of two home runs in the first.
The Hawkeyes answered in the third. Avery Jackson walked and reached third on a single, allowing Tory Bennett to bring her in with a single of her own to put Iowa on the board.
Oregon expanded its lead in the fourth inning. A wild pitch plated one and a single and a double brought across three more to give the Ducks a six-run advantage.
Oregon secured the victory in the sixth when three more Ducks crossed home plate.
HEAR FROM HEAD COACH STACY MAY-JOHNSON
“We didn’t control the score. We pushed one across in the third, but it could have been a lot more. Our pitchers have the stuff to get batters out, they just need to be more consistent. I think we are going to see a lot of fight tomorrow. They’re hungry. There’s more in this team. Our best is still ahead of us.”
