Iowans are paying about 19 cents more per gallon of gas than they were the previous week.
Gas Buddy reports the average cost of the over 2000 stations in their survey was $3.48 a gallon. That’s 33.7 cents higher than a month ago and over 39 cents higher than a year ago.
Iowa City area prices are generally at $3.59 as of Monday morning.
The average national price of gas went up nearly 12 cents last week, and average $4.06 today, 85 cents higher than a year ago.
Diesel is even more expensive, averaging $5.58 a gallon nationwide.
Head of petroleum analysis at Gas Buddy Patrick DeHaan says drivers in the Plains, Great Lakes and parts of the Rockies should expect sharp increases in the coming week.
