A Missouri man arrested for public intoxication faces a felony charge after allegedly bringing marijuana into the Johnson County Jail.
Police were called to the Hampton Inn on Sturgis Corner Drive just after 10pm Wednesday on reports of an intoxicated man causing problems in the public lobby. Upon arrival, they confronted 50-year-old Jyi Hampton of St. Louis, who reportedly showed several signs of impairment. He reportedly admitted to consuming alcohol and was arrested.
At the Johnson County Jail, he was searched upon arrival with no illegal substances located. However, jail staff subsequently discovered Hampton had folded a green plastic bag allegedly containing a green leafy substance in his shoe.
Hampton was additionally charged with marijuana possession and possession of contraband in a correctional institution. If convicted on all three counts, he faces a prison sentence of over six years.
