A state-licensed mental health professional in Iowa City is facing disciplinary actions tied to allegations of having sex with a former client.

Iowa Capital Dispatch reports the Iowa Board of Behavioral Health Professionals has charged Jaci Rolffs with violating a state regulation that prohibits a psychologist from engaging in sexual relations with a former client for at least two years after therapy has ended.

The board alleges that in May 2024, Rolffs self-reported engaging in a “single intimate interaction” with a former client in 2023.

To resolve the case, the board and Rolffs recently agreed to a settlement that requires her to complete an educational course on professional boundaries. The board has also placed her Iowa psychologist’s license on probation for 18 months.
