The Iowa City Fire Department responded to Slater Hall on the University of Iowa campus Tuesday night.
A Hawkalert was issued at about 7:30 p.m. for what was described as an “unknown problem” at the Grand Avenue dormitory that required the fire department. The PulsePoint app labeled the call as a “structure fire” and indicated firefighters were dispatched at about 7:19 p.m.
Arriving firefighters determined there was no fire, and that a burning smell likely came from an electrical issue that did not pose a safety threat. Residents were then allowed to re-enter the building.
