Following a standout collegiate playing career at the University of Iowa and Central Michigan University, Molly Davis has joined the Eastern Kentucky University women’s basketball program as an assistant coach, head coach Greg Todd announced Thursday morning.
Davis arrives in Richmond after spending the past two seasons at the University of Evansville, where she served as a graduate assistant and assistant coach.
Last season, Davis helped guide the Purple Aces to a runner-up finish in the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament. Evansville defeated Illinois-Chicago, Belmont and Illinois State during its postseason run before advancing to the tournament championship game.
During her time in Iowa City, the Hawkeyes compiled a 65-12 overall record while Davis averaged 5.9 points per game, 3.0 assists per game and shot a high 54 percent from the field. She appeared in 69 games and made 29 starts during her two-year stint with the program.
Meanwhile, former Iowa standout Kate Martin has been waived by the Golden State Valkyries. She averaged 6.2 points and 2.7 rebounds in the team’s inaugural season.
Martin has been battling a right quad strain, but had been improving from the injury and was being reevaluated on a day to day basis ahead of the move.
Teams had 48 hours to claim Martin on waivers ahead of Saturday’s season opener. Sports Illustrated speculates Martin could be signed by the Indiana Fever, who have a free development contract available, the Las Vegas Aces, her first team, or the expansion Portland Fire.
Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever host Dallas to start the season Saturday at noon on ABC.
