A Mississippi man was taken into custody this week after a traffic stop for speeding led to OWI and drug charges.

According to the police report, 36-year-old Jeremy Jackson of Moss Point was traveling on Highway 218 North at around 12:20 am Tuesday and stopped for driving over the speed limit. Upon contact, Jackson allegedly had an open container of alcohol in plain sight. He was reportedly observed with bloodshot watery eyes, slurred speech, and the odor of ingested alcohol.

Jackson allegedly admitted to drinking alcohol earlier and showed measurable impairment on field tests. A PBT confirmed he was under the influence, and a Datamaster showed his breath-alcohol level at .163 percent.

A search incident to arrest reportedly found a plastic bag containing marijuana, as confirmed by Jackson.

He was charged with OWI first offense and marijuana possession, and cited for speeding and an open container violation. Jackson could be sentenced to up to two years in jail if convicted on the criminal charges.
