A Burlington man faces a drug and weapon charge after police allegedly discovered marijuana in his vehicle.
According to police, they came upon a 2012 Honda in the Capitol Street parking lot just before 10:15pm Saturday while on routine patrol. 21-year-old Gabriel Morgan and another subject were sitting in the vehicle, and upon approach observed two open containers of alcohol. There was also reportedly an odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
Morgan allegedly admitted to smoking in the vehicle earlier in the day and that there may be marijuana in the car. He also reportedly admitted to having a firearm.
A search was made on a bag behind Morgan’s driver’s seat, and officers allegedly found 4 THC wax containers and a firearm.
Post Miranda, Morgan reportedly said he’d been a daily marijuana user for as long as he could remember, and falsified a federal form when the weapon was transferred from his father to him a few days prior to his arrest.
Morgan was charged with a controlled substance violation and Fraudulent Purchase of Firearms. If convicted on both counts, he faces a possible prison sentence of up to six years.
