A Coralville man was taken into custody after physically assaulting a woman in the back seat of a vehicle.
Police say the incident occurred at Planet Fitness on Coral Ridge Avenue Tuesday evening. According to the arrest report, 25-year-old Lavaughnus Harris of Boston Way and the woman both stated they were in a physical argument in the back seat of his vehicle. Harris reportedly stated that they got into an altercation and he punched her. He allegedly continued punching her and stated he knew he should have stopped but kept punching the woman. He stopped the assault, but then began punching the woman shortly afterwards.
The woman had red and purple bruising on her face, a swollen eye and lip. She had to be taken to the hospital for treatment.
Harris was charged with 2nd offense Domestic Abuse Assault and faces a possible jail sentence of up to two years. A No-Contact order was requested between the parties.
