A Wednesday evening fire has displaced a Cedar Rapids family.

Crews were dispatched to the 1200 block of Wright Brothers Boulevard SW on reports of heavy black smoke coming from a single family residence. Upon arrival, firefighters found an attached garage fully engulfed in fire.

The garage fire was extinguished, and crews then cut a hole in the roof to extinguish hidden fire in the attic and other concealed areas of the home.

Three adults and three children were home at the time of the incident but got out safely without need for medical treatment. They have been displaced and are being assisted by the American Red Cross.

The home sustained heavy damage to the garage and minor damage to the rest of the home.

A damage estimate has not been made available; the cause of the fire is under investigation.
