A resident of a facility for the chronically homeless faces charges that he drunkenly harassed attendees at a nearby church.
68-year-old Ronald Rarey of Cross Park Place is accused of walking into Good News Bible Church at Pepperwood Place just before 6pm Sunday and threatening and harassing churchgoers. The investigation determined that Rarey had initially been found passed out inside the church. When he was awakened and asked to move, he allegedly became belligerent towards church staff.
Arriving Iowa City Police say Rarey showed multiple signs of intoxication, was emotionally unstable and declined a post-arrest portable Breathalyzer test.
Rarey is charged with Public Intoxication.
