A University of Iowa student faces charges that he stole a toilet seat from a downtown bar, then ditched it at a downtown hotel.

Iowa City Police noticed 20-year-old Nolan Nagle of Ottawa, Illinois walking through the Ped Mall just after 1:30 Saturday morning with a large item concealed under his shirt. Nagle was seen removing the item and dropping it on the ground in the doorway of The Graduate Hotel before walking away.

Officers stopped Nagle and discovered the item was the top half of a toilet seat. Nagle, who showed multiple signs of intoxication, admitted to breaking the seat off a toilet at The Sports Column and concealing it in his shirt so he could leave the bar without being caught. He said he’d planned to hang the toilet seat on his wall.

Nagle was also found in possession of a fictitious Missouri driver’s license that showed him to be of legal drinking age.

Nagle is charged with Public Intoxication, 5th Degree Theft, 5th Degree Criminal Mischief, Being in a Bar After 10pm While Underage, Littering, and Possession of a Fictitious License. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of 16 months in jail.
