Iowa basketball star Jordan Bohannon raised a stir when he autographed his shoes and left them on the Hilton Coliseum floor after the Hawkeyes’ 84-68 win at Iowa State Thursday night. And now, he‘s using the act to raise money for charity.
Bohannon posted on his Twitter and Instagram accounts Friday night that the shoes, which were recovered by UI athletics officials, will be raffled off at $10 a ticket. He says, “every single penny” will be donated to the UI Stead Family Children’s Hospital.
Payment can be made through a special Venmo account: @JboISUMemzShoes.
One of the first replies under in Instagram post is from Bohannon’s teammate, Patrick McCaffery, who replied with a heart emoji, a raised fist emoji, and #FTK…the popular “for the kids” hashtag used by UI Dance Marathon. McCaffery was diagnosed with cancer in 2014, and is currently sidelined as he continues his recovery from treatment. His parents, head coach Fran McCaffery and his wife Margaret, recently donated $100,022 for UI Healthcare’s Comprehensive Cancer Adolescent and Young Adult Cancer Program. The extra $22 over $100,000 is for Patrick’s number with the Hawkeyes.
