A Coralville woman has been arrested after allegedly cutting the father of their child with a kitchen knife to the face.
According to police, they received a call from the man Thursday at 8:48pm. He said that the woman, 34-year-old Pamela Harris of 5th Avenue Place had been arguing at his Arthur Street apartment in Iowa City. She reportedly had been drinking, and took his car, which caused him to call police out of concern.
While officers were searching for the vehicle, the man called back and said that Harris had returned and was breaking down the windows to the apartment. When they arrived, police observed that a screen had been removed from the window and placed to the side. They knocked and spoke to the man, who was clearly bleeding from several lacerations to his face.
The man told officers that Harris was pounding on the door, and a friend on premises opened the door to try to calm her down. She allegedly pushed past the friend, wielding what appeared to be a kitchen knife and began slashing the man’s face. Other witnesses on scene corroborated the story, saying that she fled after slashing the child’s father.
Officers located Harris near the intersection of Riverside and Grand about two hours later. She reportedly had made her way to the hospital where the man was being treated for his wounds, and jumped out attempting to start a fight with him nearby. She allegedly refused to cooperate with officers and although called by her real first name several times, claimed that her first name wasn’t Pamela and identified herself as Shantay Wilson.
Harris was taken into custody and charged with domestic abuse assault with the use of a weapon, going armed with intent, and providing false identification information. If convicted on all charges, she could be sentenced to a prison sentence of over seven years.
