An Iowa City woman who allegedly walked into downtown traffic Sunday night was arrested after reportedly punching the officer who stopped her.

According to police, 36-year-old Brandy Fulton of Lucas Street was acting violent and was approached by officers for walking into traffic. She allegedly refused to stop for officers although they reportedly asked her to do so several times.

Fulton reportedly told the officers to leave her alone and if they didn’t, she would punch them.

One of the officers grabbed Fulton’s arm to prevent her from walking away, and she allegedly made good on her word, punching the officer in the face, causing a cut to his lip that required medical attention.

Fulton was taken into custody and charged with interference with official acts causing bodily injury, a serious misdemeanor punishable by a jail sentence of up to one year.
