Coralville Police caught a rare sight on video this week: a live armadillo.
The video was posted to the official Coralville Police Facebook page Thursday afternoon. The six-second clip shows an armadillo crawling along concrete near 2nd Street as traffic roars nearby.
Coralville Police say they’ve sent the video and a report of the sighting to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. The DNR tracks armadillo sightings in the state, and requests that anyone who sees one send specific location details and photos, if available, as well as contact information to James.Coffey@dnr.iowa.gov.
The DNR says armadillos occasionally make their way into Iowa, but are ill-equipped to survive the state’s harsh, cold winters.
