Intentionally crashing his truck into his girlfriend’s vehicle, sending it through a garage door, has led to a rural North Liberty man’s arrest.
Coralville Police were called to an address on South Ridge Drive just after 2:45 Saturday morning. 37-year-old Matthew Beltz of Half Moon Avenue NW had been in an argument with his girlfriend when he allegedly drove to her house after drinking. Police say he banged on the door of the house but was denied entry. That’s when he got back into his 1992 Chevy C1500 and drove into his girlfriend’s car in the driveway, sending it through the garage door and into the wall, causing an estimated $10,000 in damage.
Beltz then allegedly entered the house through the garage door, ignoring his girlfriend’s commands to stop. He allegedly followed her around the house and into the backyard. She eventually fled the residence and called 9-1-1.
Beltz was found in the driver’s seat of his crashed truck. He admitted to being drunk and to driving his truck through the garage door. Police say he showed multiple signs of intoxication, and registered a blood alcohol content over two times the legal limit for driving.
Beltz is charged with 1st Degree Criminal Mischief, Operating While Intoxicated, and Trespassing Causing Over $300 in Damage. If convicted on all charges, he faces a maximum of 12 years in prison.
