City High football coach Dan Sabers is retiring.
Sabers has spent the last 20 years as the Little Hawks’ head coach. Before that he served for 20 years as the team’s defensive coordinator.
Sabers made 14 playoff appearances as head coach, including appearances in three state championship games and one state championship victory in 2009. That’s the last time an eastern Iowa team won a Class 4A title.
Sabers won a total of 141 games as Little Hawks head coach. He was also honored seven times as Mississippi Valley Conference or district coach of the year.
