Iowa City Police are investigating a shots fired incident that occurred near Wetherby Park on Sunday afternoon.
According to a release from the ICPD, at approximately 12:55pm, officers responded to the park on Taylor Drive following a report of shots being fired. Witnesses at the scene reported that two vehicles approached each other and a shot was fired. The two vehicles then sped off.
One vehicle was described as a lighter gold 1990’s SUV, possibly a Chevy Suburban, while the other was a black or dark-colored newer SUV.
No immediate injuries were reported, but at approximately 2:17pm that afternoon, an adult male reported that he suffered a superficial wound to his eyebrow from a bullet fired at him while he was in his vehicle earlier near Taylor and Sandusky Drive. The man’s vehicle matched the description of the lighter gold SUV witnesses described. Police found evidence showing that a shot had been fired into the vehicle.
The man was unable to provide a description of the alleged shooter.
The Police Department is actively investigating this incident and are asking the public for assistance. Anyone who can help with the investigation can call 356-5275. Those in the area with surveillance equipment are asked to review their footage from that time window and contact police with any potential information about the incident.
